Fat Mogul vs. Reviewing (a review of reviewing)

UntitledSo, it’s been over a month now since I made my resolution to begin writing more reviews of things I appreciate.  Every week, more or less, I’ve been trying to highlight a book or restaurant that I like and let you know about it.

Now that we’ve made it through the first month, I figured I might as well check with all of you on what you think about the new addition.  This site has not been traditionally filled with much for standardized content, generally just being a dumping ground for whatever random thoughts I may have on a specific day.  But, now that I’m a man who hopes many will review and highlight my own products, I feel the need to pay it forward.

Now, I’m not saying I’m going to stop reviewing these items.  Amazon, Goodreads, and Yelp will continue to see my messages about my love for the places and things that put a smile on my face.  I’m just curious what you, the faithful fatmogul.com elite, think.

Let me know in any of the usual methods (here, facebook, e-mail, or face slaps (typically reserved for my wife)).

On a side note, since this is an incredibly short post and therefore disinteresting to everyone…I’m still on the fence about how I feel about reviews being such a commonplace effort in today’s world.  I mean, everything that I purchase or do or whatever asks me to review my experience as well as fill out a survey and give my vote and like them on facebook and whatever else.  I mean…seriously…as a consumer, I find myself feeling as though more and more businesses look down on me if I don’t fulfill all of their dreams…while at the same time, those same businesses have cut back on the customer service they provide.

I have a hard time being that guy, which is why I so often have trouble asking for people to put reviews out for me.  I run my ‘business’ off the idea that if I do well enough, you folks will want to do these things of your own will, regardless of what I may beg of you, and not as a favor to me or because you’re ‘guilted’ into doing so, but as a natural response to reading something good.  I’d rather grow my business through those methods of earning respect and adoration from fans, instead of spamming people into helping me out.  Not to speak out against my fellow authors and artists who use the other methods, as I fully understand my method ain’t gonna do much for me.

Anyways, I’ve ranted for long enough.  Let me know what you think of having the reviews on here.  If you ignore them, that’s the kind of info I’d love to know!

Have fun out there!
