In response to nearing complete burnout at work, I decided to take a personal day today in order to rest my brain. I’d love to say that it was also to enjoy some lovey-dovey time with the wife on this day of love, but, well, she’s in meetings all day and couldn’t justify playing hooky like her lazy husband.
I’d love to say that I have so far managed to be productive on this day away from the desk, but, to be honest, I’ve spent a fair portion of my day thus far in the same spot I would have been were I not working. . . only, I don’t have the constant influx of e-mails telling me of the multitude of urgent items I need to work on. Instead, I spent some time chatting up some new writer friends, catching up on e-mails, doing some reading of some other aspiring writers’ works, and, well, you know, just catching up on me.
It’s been nice, and I’m only halfway through the day. Unfortunately, I’m probably going to have to spend the rest of the day getting real stuff done, but I am hoping to actually get some writing done, as THE RISE OF THE FAT MOGUL has been calling to me for the past week, which I have not had the time to continue the creation process during.
Since I really have nothing to talk about today in the ways of, you know, substance, I may as well update you on what’s going on with the book stuff in general. As just mentioned, the sequel to THE LEGEND OF BUDDY HERO is in the early writing stages. I believe I’m at just around 5,000 words written, which is a rather paltry number, but the first 10,000 words are typically the slowest to get out for me. Once I get the story moving forward, I usually have no trouble flying through the last 70,000 words or less.
THE LEGEND OF BUDDY HERO is currently ranked #106 on authonomy.com. It’s been a slow move through these last few spots just under the top 100, but from what my friends have been telling me, once you break into the top 100, the movement to the top 50 can happen pretty darn fast. Seeing as I still haven’t put in the amount of time spamming, marketing, or whatever on the site that most of my friends have done to get up the ranks, I’m pretty proud to be where I’m at. . . I’d still love to see my favorite superhero reach the top of the pile someday soon. We’ll see how the next month plays out.
Speaking of Buddy, his release date is still undecided, but nearing. I should be hearing from the cover designer any day now (technically today, but who’s counting) and have a better idea of when we can expect to have Buddy’s finalized cover in my hands. I’m really excited about that. There’s a few more finishing touches I need to do (as well as some decisions I thought I had made but have now been forced to reconsider) before everything is said and done, but my fingers are tightly crossed to have this new version of the ill-fated initial release in the public’s hands before the end of March.
And since I mentioned I had started it. . . THE RISE OF THE FAT MOGUL. I’m only 5,000 words in and I’ve already found myself going places I hadn’t intended. It’s proving to be an interesting side story that’s going on, and one that will actually play well into a tangential story I had intended, but it’s going about itself completely differently than I had expected. . . in a good way. And, I’m really enjoying the new character that gets introduced right away in the first chapter. He should end up being a ton of fun when things are all said and done.
And for those of you who are fans of THE AGORA FILES, or at least the rough little teaser that’s been released to the public, don’t think I’m forgetting that that gem of a title either. It’s actually in the top 1000 on authonomy right now, although I haven’t done anything for that title at all, and it’s in need of some severe editing love. But on top of that, I’ve also been working through some of the future bits of the story for the rest of the books in Cyrus’ story which are going to be fabulous. I’m excited to get back into that world soon.
In other news. . . well, I’m working on some of the early stages for a little blog book tour I’m hoping to be doing right around release time for Buddy. It’s very early stages, but not only should you be able to find me popping up on some other blogs around the web, but we should have interviews, book reviews, and perhaps even some special guest bloggers up on here as well. If everything goes as scheduled, April should be a fairly interesting month in the world of the mogul.
Welp, that’s a rather long status update, but that’s the world I’m in right now. Hope you all have a sexy Valentine’s Day and, you know, get some rest.
Have a good one!
