Break from editing

So, I’ve been an editing machine today.  Now that I’ve decided that I need to jump on the self-pub bandwagon (some numbers given to me by a new writer friend pushed me even further in that direction), I’ve been pushing to get through this final edit sequence as fast as possible.  The book is pretty darn finished, just a few final touches I thought of as I was going through the last read and a final check for grammatical errors and whatnot.

It’s exciting.  But. . . exhausting.  So, I decided to take a break for a moment and put something in this space.  I thought I’d talk about the picture I’ve currently got set as the profile pic for this site.  It’s a happy picture for me as it’s one of my favorite locations in this world.  It was taken at a restaurant/bar in Murrels Inlet, SC called Bubba’s Love Shak.

We happened across the lovely little spot a couple of years ago, mostly by accident.  It was a great accident.  Not only is this one of the few places in South Carolina where you can get a cheap beer (note that there’s not just any beer in that photo, but the beloved Miller High Life), but it’s also a great place to get some low country seafood.  The shrimp and grits I had on our last visit was some of the best food I’ve ever had. . . and I’ve had a lot of great food.

But it’s not just that.  The location is a bit part of the appeal of this little spot.  It’s right on the inlet, right across the water from a little plot of land known as Goat Island.  It’s known as such because of the large number of goats that roam freely there.  This is not a place where man hangs out, outside of Bubba, who feeds the animals and takes them to safer locations during severe weather.  It’s just a spot for some goats and birds to hang out and be a fun thing for customers to see.

It’s awesome.

And it’s all along this walkway that explores the inlets, dotted with bars and restaurants the whole way.

It’s peaceful, but also allows for the opportunity for some partying, if required.

My kids love it here, my wife loves it here, and I, especially, love it there.

So. . . that’s why its up at the moment, because it’s too damned cold in Wisconsin and I need some warmer thoughts.

And. . . sometimes it’s nice to have a relaxing spot to remember when trying to get your brain wrapped around too many words.

Okay, gotta get back to it.  Hope you all have a great weekend.  New stuff coming next week in preparation for the re-release of THE LEGEND OF BUDDY HERO.

I’m pretty excited about it.
