I finally did it. The ending is incredibly rough, rushed, and, well, a little forced, but it is written. Currently at just a tad over 66,000 words and 201 double-spaced pages, the first draft of my first novel is done. Taking over ten years to finally get a first draft done, this feels pretty darn amazing.
This means it’s now time to get down to the real work. To dig in and really make this puppy shine. It’s pretty exciting, but, you know, also a bit frightening because I can no longer just say that I’ll fix it when I come back to it.
But for now, I’m celebrating.
So, mark it on your calendars, March 8, 2011 is when I finally completed the first draft of my novel. The day I moved on to purely a re-write phase. The day I realized I really need to come up with a title for this crazy tale of heroism. And also the day that I realized that I had better come up with an easy way to explain what goes on in this book before I start trying to put together query letters.
In other words, I’m nowhere near done.
